Hassan

A five-year-old from Arusha, Hassan lives with his mother in a challenging family situation. Abandoned by his father when he was just 27 days old, with his father claiming he didn’t want a male child, Hassan’s early life has been marked by complex family dynamics. His mother is currently unemployed and lives with her aunt, who prevents her from seeking work, ostensibly to help the family survive. Hassan’s story reflects the broader struggles of single mothers in Tanzania, where economic opportunities can be limited and social expectations often constrain women’s ability to become financially independent. Despite these challenges, he represents a generation of children navigating difficult family circumstances with resilience.
