Naomi Abel is an eight-year-old girl from Arusha, Tanzania, who shares a special bond with her twin sister, Ester. Since the age of two, Naomi and Ester have experienced the challenges of their mother’s mental illness, which has led their father to become the primary caregiver for the family and finally to him bringing both girls to Camp Joshua in 2023. Her favorite food is rice and beans, a popular Tanzanian dish known locally as wali maharage, and her favorite color is green. Naomi dreams of becoming a teacher when she grows up, reflecting her aspirations for education and community service. Growing up in Arusha with her twin sister, Naomi has developed resilience and hope despite the family’s unique circumstances.
