Arriving at Camp Joshua in 2023, Samia is a vibrant five-year-old girl from Shinyanga, a city in northern Tanzania. Born with albinism, she has a special bond with her older sister Neema, who also has albinism and has lived at Camp Joshua for several years now. Both girls lived with their parents in Shinyanga before being sent to Camp Joshua in order to be kept safe. Their condition can be dangerous in rural parts of Tanzania due to superstition and violence against them. Samia is a cheerful child who loves music, her favorite color is blue, and she has a particular fondness for ugali, a traditional Tanzanian dish. She adores cows and dreams of becoming a big sister who takes care of others.
