At nine years old, Scholastica comes from a large family of 19 members, living with her grandmother and various relatives. A resilient young girl from Shinyanga, she found her way to Camp Joshua in 2023, embarking on a new chapter in her life. Her brother Noel is an important part of her life, providing companionship in their bustling household. Her favorite color, pink, reflects her vibrant personality and optimism. Like many children her age, she finds joy in simple pleasures, with chips (french fries) being her favorite food. At Camp Joshua, Scholastica has discovered a love for learning, particularly excelling in and enjoying counting. This fondness for mathematics aligns well with her dream of becoming a doctor, a noble aspiration that speaks to her desire to help others and make a positive impact on her community. Camp Joshua, which opened in 2005, provides Scholastica with educational opportunities that might not have been available to her otherwise. The school’s commitment to nurturing children from challenging backgrounds offers her a chance to pursue her dreams and potentially break the cycle of poverty often seen in regions like Shinyanga.
