Swaumu

Nine-year-old, Swaumu, is from Shinyanga, Tanzania. She lives with her elderly grandmother, who has become her primary caregiver. Swaumu’s mother left when she was just a baby, leaving her in the care of her father. Unfortunately, her father’s struggle with alcoholism led him to entrust Swaumu to his mother’s care. Despite the challenges she has faced, Swaumu remains a cheerful and curious child. She has a particular fondness for chips and chicken, and her favorite color is the vibrant red. Like many children her age, Swaumu dreams of receiving a doll as a gift. What sets her apart is her keen interest in science, especially human anatomy. She enjoys studying the parts of the body, which has inspired her aspiration to become a nurse when she grows up. Although she is an only child and her grandmother’s limitations sometimes make life difficult, Swaumu’s determination and love for learning continue to shine through.
